Hermosa Toy Drive: How to Participate as a School or Non-Profit

hermosa-chicago-toy-drive-2020-hna-recipient.png

Thank you for your interest and dedication to children in the Hermosa community! There are many ways you can participate in the HNA Toy Drive to benefit the children in your organization. Here are the steps to participate and receive toys for the children in your network. Note: to be eligible, you must be bordering or in the Hermosa community.

  1. CONTACT US: Get in touch with the HNA via text or email: (773) 295 - 7790, INFO@OURHERMOSA.ORG
Our volunteers can guide you through the options and process of being a toy drive recipient

  2. DETERMINE YOUR TOY QUOTA + AGE GROUPS: Our volunteers can consult on goals with groups within your school/organization to target the appropriate toys for the children connected to your organization.

  3. PROMOTE: Share the link to the toy drive in your own network of possible donors. Consider email lists, social media and flyers to solicit donations for the toy drive. The online shopping for toys ends November 30th.

  4. RECEIVE TOYS: Coordinate to receive toys mid December the HNA. Our organization would coordinate toy distribution depending on your scenario and other logistics.

  5. DISTRIBUTE TOYS: Distribute toys to your kids. As a toy drive recipient, the HNA would deliver a batch of toys to your specified location, depending on your scenario and your organization would distribute the toys to your children.

Eligibility

Your organization must be a school, church, or non-profit in the Hermosa community (or bordering) with students or child participants in your organization.

Dates of the Drive

  • November 10th: Deadline for your toy quota (the earlier, the better!)

  • Now until November 30th: Online purchase of toys

  • Nov 30th - Mid December: Toy Order is being processed

  • Mid December: Toys delivered to HNA

  • Post Dec 15th: Toy distribution to schools + organizations

Considerations

If you are a representative from a school, please consider dividing your the possible toy drive recipients by:

  • Classroom

  • Grade

  • Club (ex: afterschool, sports)

Participation Options

A) Have your own branded landing page for the toy drive: HNA will help you set up a toy drive platform with your school or organization’s name to use for promoting the drive. This would take a staff member to coordinate and promote online, and through email or text to possible donors. This is best for larger number of children in your organization (50+)

B) Request to receive a set amount of toys (under 50) in specified age groups. HNA’s main toy drive will be continuing through November and any promotion of your involvement in the event would use the HNA main drive link. Assuming we met our target toy drive goals, we would coordinate to deliver toys around mid December.

Lee Helmer is with the Hermosa Neighborhood Association. “We will be getting signs made to put in the parks in English and Spanish to remind people that they shouldn't be playing on the playground or playing, let's say, in Kelvyn Park at a volleyball match.” Helmer said she doesn't want to report people who aren't following social distancing guidelines instead she wants to focus on educating them.
