Meeting Concerns

Previous Concerns

  • Kelvyn Park: suspicious behavior, gangs, litter and signs of drinking 

    • CPD will continue to monitor park and ensure volleyball players leave by 9PM

  • Wrightwood Ave parkway/greenbelt: Huge amounts of beer cans/bottles, empty beer boxes, used condoms and syringes found on both sides of the Wrightwood - ongoing issue

    • CPD will continue to monitor park; will also ensure volleyball games end on time

  • International Foods lot: issue with loitering and men drinking in the back of the lot has been handled by CPD and monitoring

Current Concerns

  • 2700 block of Monticello: dumpster fire; no other similar issues have been reported

  • Speeding on Fullerton continues as well the running of red lights

  • 372 Calls for Service

  • 102 Reports Made

  • 14 arrests

  • 2 Shootings: (1) July 2, 5:30PM on 2700 N Kilbourn,  (2) 5PM 4200 W Fullerton, unintended target, gang related

  • August 28th Hermosa Neighborhood Association Clean up-  Armitage Ave (meet at Stock ‘n Save) from 10am - 1pm. Gloves and bags provided

  • Sept. 4th Kelvyn Park - (Chicago Park District) Clean & Green from 10 am - 1pm (meet on the NW corner of Kostner & Wrightwood) Gloves and bags provided

Meeting Concerns

25th District update on Gang activity at Kelvyn Park and drinking: update from 25:  Will have more police presence with more bike patrol

  • 31st Ward re gang activity: seems to be an isolated incident; office has not received calls regarding gangs; they have received calls regarding volleyball players 

  • Resident, re Wrightwood greenbelt: there has constant litter with signs of drinking overnight leaving behind empty boxes of beer, bottles of liquor, beer bottles/cans); signs of sexual activity leaving behind used condoms, panties 

  • Resident, re International Foods lot: men hanging out at International Foods for hours at a time drinking in lot drinking, International Foods - 

    • 25th Ofc Robles: has been a concern in the past; has a report 

  • Resident: excessively loud parties: 2705 N Monticello and  2701 N Monticello (this is a section 8 house and the 2nd floor resident sometimes blast music from his back porch while he grills at random times.

  • Deondre Rutues, Chair of NPI: invited community to join next meeting to learn more about the Neighborhood Policing Initiative and becoming a community ambassador to represent your community. 

  • Facilitator: Diversey/Harding - speed cameras - increase in tickets 

  • Do not respond to suspicious emails

  • Resident: Speeding continues on Fullerton

    • running stop signs

    • red light at Keeler

    • at keystone, cars turning left c

2524 Crime Stats (2 month Period)

  • Trucks parked along wrightwood - suspicious behavior; several citations issued

  • Kelvyn Park - people drinking in park; Sgt has been monitoring, all good so far; will be working 12 hour shifts - will be monitoring over the weekend and next weekend.

  • Parker Ave (block#?) - engaging in illegal activity (prostitution); CPD to monitor area

  • 432 calls for svc

  • 109 crimes

  • 14 arrests

  • No major incidents

Meeting Concerns

Carjackings are are on the rise and happening  in front of homes, driveways, gas stations, ATMS and when stopped at intersections. Bump & runs are also on the rise.  There has been 3 carjackings in the 25th District with 2 arrests made.

  • Safety precautions:

    •  park in well lit areas

    •  keep your car doors and windows locked 

    • leave space between you and the cars in front of you when stopped at an intersection 

    • Consider purchasing a anti-theft GPS

    • Keep cell phone handy to call 911

    • Trust your instincts

  • Burglaries & Armed Robberies in the 25th District

    • lock garages and windows in areas that are not visible from the home

    • Install motion detectors 

    • Don’t carry large amounts of cash

    • Befriend your neighbors and business owners to keep communication open on suspicious activity

Meeting Topics

  • Increase in carjackings - occurring all days and times

  • Officer Hernandez suggests not to keep keys in cars when warming up; possible invest in keyless remote

  • Menards - North Ave & Kostner employee was carjacked

  • Walmart - North Avenue shopper was carjacked in the AM hours

  • Porch Pirate (package thieves) - increase during the holiday season.

    • Suggestions: change delivery address to a location where someone will be home.

    • Use a work address

    • Suggest a Amazon or Fedex pick up location

  • Loud Music

    • Music played in the home or outside the home should be kept at a respectable level

    • Music curfew occurs between 10 pm- 8 am

  • Trash concerns in and around beat 2524

    • There has been an increase in trash, specifically beer bottles (drinking), cans, and drug use around Kelvyn Park, along Wrightwood (headed west), and within the factories along Keeler

  • Sumit Construction reported a break in their parking lot as well as squatters

  • Operation Clean Sweep - officers patrol the area (s) in questions but there must be a collaboration between the community, alderperson, and police

    • Please call 911 if you see anyone suspicious all call can remain anonymous
